Optical Flow Velocity Meter

Oil and gas production efficiencies are driven by the management of fluid flow, which can be greatly augmented by so-called intelligent wells that integrate well monitoring sensors with flow control devices.  Intelligent wells can be greatly enhanced by direct downhole flow measurement- unfortunately much of commercially available flow meter technology is not up to the task.  Legacy flow meter technology such as venture and differential pressure types have obstructions in the flow path that present significant risk to well operations. Furthermore, these flow meters are limited in performance and temperature for use in many of the intended deviated, deepwater, high temperature wells.  Optical flow meters have emerged that address these shortcomings, but involve complicated and expensive sensor interrogation and transducer designs. 

QOREX has developed a proprietary Optical Flow Velocity Meter (patent pending) that likewise has no obstruction in the flow path, yet operates on a streamlined interrogation system and transducer design for a significant cost advantage.  The QOREX solution allows operation of multiple flow velocity sensors along the same sensing fiber, which can also be interrogated with DTS and DTSS sensors, for multi-point, flow, temperature, and strain on the same downhole sensing fiber.  In addition to this powerful suite if sensors, multi-parameter sensing allows for new possibilities in data interpretation and modeling over single parameter data.
